The excursion tomorrow to Priceline Stadium will still be happening. The Be Active Presentation Ceremony at 9:15am will be inside the stadium and the Come and Try Sessions at 10:15am will only be 15 minutes each with time given for drinks and suncream application. We will be finishing earlier and will be catching the bus at 12 noon to return.
Students will need to apply sunscreen before they come to school.
They can arrive at school any time after 8:00am and come straight to the classroom.
The bus is arriving at 8:15 and we will be leaving at 8:25 at the latest. Latecomers will have to go to another class for the morning.
Students will need to be in school uniform, bring sunscreen to reapply, water, hats, recess (we will leave our lunch at school in an airconditioned room)
Thanks, Sharon, Steve & Jane

How lucky were we?
So pleased today to see our wonderful classroom have the pleasure of Ann Baker. The students experienced a lesson with the math expert and showed how brilliant they are. Please ask them about the measurement lesson and what they were asked to solve.

SAPSASA Fun Day
All Year 4 and 5 students will be at the SAPSASA Fun Day on Thursday. Last day to pay is tomorrow (Tuesday) as we need to confirm numbers.
Last year was a great day where students had the chance to try 6 different sports over the day. Students will need to be at school by 8.30am for roll call before we catch the bus. They need to wear full school uniform, including their hat with suitable shorts and footwear for the day. They will need to bring recess, lunch and water. Spending money is permitted as the canteen at the oval will be open. Here is a short movie showing how much fun we had.

Finders Keepers Riddling Riddles
We are reading Emily Rodda's - Finders Keepers as a class novel for the first few weeks of Term 3.
If you get the chance tonight could you please read these riddles with your child and see if together you can come up with possible items that are being described. We hope that along the way they will also describe to you what has happened in the book so far.
Eleanor Doon's Riddle
My first is in fur but not in fun,
My second means just me alone,
My third is third as well in run,
My fourth begins my saddest groan,
I have three hearts of deepest red,
In shining gold they make their bed.
Clyde O'Brien's Riddle
A tree has died to give me birth,
But still I shelter feathered friends.
I'm large and heavy, coloured earth,
With golden fringes my tail ends.
And where my name and others be,
My owners name is plain to see.
Wendy Minelli's Riddle
I'm pink and soft with bright blue eyes,
My ears are floppy, larger size,
Around my neck there is a bow,
So you can take me when you go.
And if you pull my yellow ring
A song about a star I sing.
Have fun, please don't feel this is a demand. It would just be great if the kid's had a chance to brainstorm ideas about the riddles. Dojo's will be on offer for great thoughts and discussion inputs as usual.

1 Week To Go
We hope that the projects are all progressing well. There have been some great conversations today and some enjoyable stories about work in the holidays. Alicia brought hers in today before she set off on their family trip across the east coast of Australia. She has set a very high standard already. Good luck and let us know if you are having any issues.

Shared Lunch This Friday (29th)
Dear Parents,
We will be having a shared Lunch on Friday 29th
May at 12:30pm as a farewell to Mrs Maiolo. It has been an absolute pleasure
having Anne – Louise teach in Room 9/10. The students have responded very
positively to her lessons and will miss her immensely next week.
For the shared lunch students can bring a small plate to
share. (sweet or savoury, your choice) However, please be aware that a student
has recently been diagnosed a diabetic and some students have allergies (e.g.
gluten)
If you want food heated up, please let us know in the
morning. Food that needs to be refrigerated can go in the small fridge in our
art room.
Thanks Sharon & Steve

Ardtornish Artists, lets SHOW them off.
Last Week students and members of our school community had the opportunity to view amazing pieces of art related to ANZAC. Room 9/10 also like to showcase student's art in the classroom and on our windows. We hope you take time to look at new work.
We gave our students their ANZAC art to take home this week. Awesome, High Quality, Moving are a few words used to describe this work. After discussing this with the class, we thought it would be great to see some of this art showcased at the Royal Adelaide Show in the Junior Art, Craft & Design section. The link is https://entries.theshow.com.au/
If you would like to enter a piece of work that your child has created it will cost you $3 if you register online or $4 for a paper entry.
If you register and pay online we will need some evidence of your entry. If you would like a paper copy of the entry form, we have some at school.W
We are happy to take any entries to the showgrounds, however we need entries, proof of payment or the paper entry and payment to the school by the end of Term 2.

BOM - Bureau of Meteorology Website
Several of the students mentioned they were finding the BOM site hard to locate. This is a direct link to the Tasmania map. Just click on the Cradle Valley, New Pelion Hut or Lake St Claire reports.

A Great Start
Another great week with so much achieved. The students have continued to amaze us with their commitment, initiative and great discussion input. Week 3 will see timetables settle in and a good chance for the class to develop our regular routines.
All students are working hard to increase the amount of books they read. Students who who are more reluctant readers will be given the opportunity to borrow small books to practice reading aloud. Other students have also expressed an interest to take some of these books home.
Please do not let any stress be caused by the Google conversation, blog wants and expectations or any buzz about online homework until we have had a chance to explain our online access for students and parents this year.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday at Acquaintance Night. If you are unable to attend we will address as much information as possible in a Hub post next week. Our class information is now also available via the link at the top of this blog.
Also be aware that Camp 2015 information will begin to be posted on the Camp page very soon.

Welcome to 2015
First Day Back and General Class Information #1
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you as Room 9/10 parents for 2015.
Please take a few minutes each day to let your child tell you about Room 9/10 and how we work. There may be a few concerns about class expectations and procedures. This usually disappears after the first week.
All students have been given labelled equipment to use in the classroom. This equipment will stay in their tray and any other pencil cases they have can be kept at home for homework tasks.
We encourage students to have water bottles in the classroom. Raw fruit and vegetable snacks are also encouraged for brain break eating throughout the day.
Thanks to the parents who sent a box of tissues to school today. We would appreciate each family donating a box of tissues for class use.
We will cover Homework, Curriculum & Behaviour Management expectations and any other class information in the next letter.
This year most communication will be through the blog rather than using a diary. If you need to write to us please do so in the back of the Spelling Test book. Confidential notes will need to be in a sealed envelope.
We hope that all families will be able to access and participate in the class online Hub and be an active member of the Ardtornish Google Community. We have found this to be a very successful communication tool especially when parents can access the information via their phone.
