Week 9, Term 1

HOMEWORK

SPELLING
Complete your look, say, cover, write, check in your LSCWC small notebook.

READING
Read for ten minutes every night or twenty minutes three times in a week.
This week focus on reading with someone else, (share pages, take a character etc) We have discussed possible approaches to this.
Write a journal entry for three of the times you have read at home. Please try to write a short description of the session's reading but ensure it is not just an airy fairy throw away line.
You may want to include details like: 

• Character developments 
• Describing the setting
• Plot changes
• Predictions of future events

We will be asking students to share their journals throughout the week.

TIMES TABLES
All times tables (2 - 12). Students have so far demonstrated/recorded how they learnt or practiced for homework. They presented these to the class. Some students found a video with a song or rap about a specific times table. Great! Hope they sang along with it at home. They may be asked to sing along with it in the class. It would be great if some students made their own song.

Some suggestions for a presentation include:

• A rhyme
• Written on paper
• A video
• A song
• A pattern
• Xylophone
• Slot cards

We are testing students individually and will begin speed and accuracy tasks in mental math later this week.

JAPANESE
Students will be creating their own set of hiragana flashcards. They will need to practice these for 5 minutes a night for the rest of this term, or until they know how to read them well

Week 8, Term 1

ARBURY PARK CAMP
We survived!
Hopefully all students returned home with at least one happy story to tell. We certainly saw a lot of smiling faces and heard a lot of laughter...some of which was after lights out!
LOST ITEMS
Please ask your child to check with us if they lost any items on the camp. We have a few pillows, a sheet, a blue t-shirt...and other items that have not been claimed as yet. If they have not been claimed by next week I will try to post a photo of the item on the blog.
If you didn't receive any photo posts of the camp while we were there then you probably haven't joined the Ardtornish Google Community. Please see us if you are still having trouble accessing our blog and  G+  posts.

BACK TO SCHOOL
Last Friday a few students were 'recovering' from the camp and we didn't have a full class. Now that most students are back at school we would like to remind them, and parents, of a few important matters.
CHROMEBOOKS
Chromebooks MUST be brought to school each school day. Not bringing them is equivalent to coming to school without stationery, exercise books, and texts books to learn from. Bring the Chromebook even if it is not charged. We DO NOT charge Chromebooks, however, if there are extenuating/special circumstances that require students to use their Chromebooks for a short task we may give them a brief charge so that the student can complete an activity.
SPELLING BOOKS and LSCWC BOOKS (Writing Books) must also come back to school each day if they are taken home. Students are generally given enough time to complete activities at school and the need to take them home is rare. 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

HARMONY DAY is tomorrow, Tuesday 21st of March.
Students are encouraged to wear their cultural dress or dress in orange.
This is not a 'casual day', so wear your school uniform if you're not in orange or your cultural dress.

PANCAKE DAY is also tomorrow. Bring a gold coin donation if you'd like a delicious pancake at lunch time.

SCHOOL INTERVIEWS
Don't forget to go to https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/ and book in for an interview with Steve or Graeme. You will need to enter the code 9mnyr to access the booking sheet. If these times are not suitable we would appreciate it if you could get in touch to arrange  a time that is.

HEALTH
Record the number of hours you slept each night from Thursday to Wednesday, on the health - sleep survey .

ARBURY PARK CAMP
Please refer to the 'Suggested Packing List 2017' on the blog. If there are items that need to be purchased then this is the week to do it. Remember that Monday is a public holiday and shops will be closed.

Some students have opted to perform on the 'Talent Night'. There will be a short amount of time to practise this Wednesday, however preparation time at home may be required.

We have also shared the camp schedule so that parents and students can be aware of what we will be doing from Tuesday to Thursday.
