Week 5, Term 1

SPELLING
Complete your look, say, cover, write, check in their LSCWC small notebook starting this Thursday.

READING
Read for ten minutes every night or twenty minutes three times in a week.
Please find a way to read with someone, not to someone if possible. We have discussed possible approaches to this.
Write a journal entry each day about what you have read. Please try to write a short description of the sessions reading but ensure it is not just an airy fairy throw away line.
You may want to include details like: 

• Character developments 
• Describing the setting
• Plot changes
• Predictions of future events

We will be asking students to share their journals throughout the week.

TIMES TABLES
This week's focus are the 4 & 6 times tables. Please demonstrate/record how you have learnt or practiced for homework.
This may be anything. Some suggestions may be:

• A rhyme
• Written on paper
• A video
• A song
• A pattern

Please return the consent and medical forms as soon as possible. If your child has dietary requirements please indicate on the medical form so we can get more information from you. 

Week 3, Term 1

SPELLING
(Thursday Night Start)
Students need to do their look, say, cover, write, check in their LSCWC small notebook starting this Thursday.

This can not begin until then as we are starting the routine on Thursday. They will test every Thursday morning and reset their words straight after. 

READING

TIMES TABLES
We have noticed a focus on basic multiplication facts (times tables) is needed for both year 5 and 6 students. These facts are integral to assisting a child's fast progress within maths.
Can you please listen to and question your children on 2, 5, and 10 times tables this week.

Acquaintance Night is on Wednesday 15th February from 6 - 6:45pm, we are looking forward to seeing you all then.

Welcome to Room 7/8's Blog

This is where you will find  information  we would like to share with you about our class, for example our Term Overview, information about the fast approaching Arbury Park Camp, Photos, Class Books that we have read, and of course Homework.

We will not be starting our full homework program until after spelling tests are completed.
However we would like students to begin reading:

Reminder to those attending the Chromebook sessions tomorrow at 9:00am and 6:00pm in the Resource Centre.
Chromebooks will be arriving this Wednesday.

Acquaintance Night is on Wednesday 15th February, looking forward to seeing you all then.

Camp information will be given out within the next few weeks, as soon as arrangement have been finalised.

Look Forward To Seeing You Tonight

If we have the form for your child staying after school tonight we look forward to seeing you at 6pm for a short viewing of our year.
If you know nothing about this please come and see us straight after school.

Thursday Celebration Night and DVD Purchase

Please be aware that the DVD purchase needs to be in tomorrow so that we can print and create the right amount. (We apologise about the late notice and hope you can get one as it is great keepsake)

Also our celebration note needs to be returned to allow the students to stay late on Thursday. We look forward to our shared dinner and seeing you (the parents) at 6pm to view our year in pictures.

MULTIPLICATION FACTS
There will be a multiplication facts test sometime this week. Practise those you most need to know.

ENGLISH/ MEDIA ARTS
Robot Story - make sure you have shared your story with two class members. Some students have not done this yet. They will edit it by adding comments/suggestions. Make sure you edit two other stories (more if you want), and write a comment, with your name, at the top of the story when you have finished editing.

FLOOR PLAN of your DREAM HOME

Dream homes should be finished and furnished, with all costings.

Once finished you need to give us a tour (3 minutes maximum) IN JAPANESE.

Refer to the Japanese in the Classroom document for sentence patterns and vocabulary.

We will present these in week 8 and 9.

GEOGRAPHY

Finish storyboard for 15 second advertisement. Group activity. Is there anything you can work on at home? Finding pictures? Adding directions to your storyboard Slides presentation? Produce your own music? Work due ASAP

GEOGRAPHY

Due to Geography assessments we have minimal homework expectations this week.

The presentations are going well and we only have a few more to do.

Students need to give some thought to their travel destination advertisement storyboards. This is a group activity and you will need to share a Google Slides file. Use the suggestions/comment function to negotiate and plan together which photos/pictures/text will be best, and what your engaging message will be.

This week read your story (one main character is a robot) through to an adult and do a basic edit - does it make sense? Are there capitals and full stops? Are paragraphs in the correct place? (15 minutes)

There will be five short Japanese hiragana writing tests starting on Wednesday week 4, through to Tuesday week 5. The first test (9/11/16) will be on a i u e o and ka ki ku ke ko. You will have 5 minutes to revise before the test, but use some homework time if you need to brush up on them. (5 minutes)
