Book Week Theme (Room 8)

Image result for teddy bear
The Book Week themeis Your Treasure
Room 8 are teaming up with their buddy classes (Rooms 19 & 20)
Our treasure is our Teddies and our costumes are our PJs (nightwear)
We have had a good chat about this theme and how it is a great example of a treasure we have as kids, perhaps our most valuable item. Our parents the take that treasure as it holds such wonderful memories.
As the older examples and mentors we are for our young buddy class we all thought their choice was a good one.
If a teddy is an issue please ask as my son has too many on his bed. Trackies, uggies, dressing gowns, onesies etc are all fine. Just make sure they are warm enough

MATHS

  • On a treasure map I found, the instructions were: From the palm tree, take two steps North, then four steps East. Where might I have started and where would I finish? Show this on a grid map that also uses one or more quadrants from the cartesian plane. Think carefully about how you would represent this information accurately on a  map that uses cardinal directions.
  • Spend a few minutes discussing with an adult about how the DPS or SEXTANT* (for deep space navigation) might work. *N.B this is not the other kind of sextant primarily used for ocean navigation...but maybe they're related.
