TIMES TABLES
This week's focus are the 6 & 9 times tables. Create a Word find on a doc that uses the answers of the 6 & 9 x tables. (words ie eighty one)

SPELLING
Complete your look, say, cover, write, check in their LSCWC small notebook.
The 4 boxes in their LSCWC book need to be completed by Thursday.
It is best that they complete a LSCWC on separate nights. Some kids have shown great improvement with a practice test also given by their parents on one night. Please get them to slip/staple any extra practice evidence into their book, to show us.(LSD)

READING
Read for ten minutes every night or twenty minutes three times in a week.
Please find a way to have someone reading to you and sketch them reading in your LSCWC book(signed by the artist and reader). (PLEASE get photo evidence)
Write a journal each week about your weeks reading. Please try to write an entry that details the developments over the week and be descriptive so that a person who has not read the text can clearly imagine the story. (In your LSCWC book by Friday morning)
You may want to include details like: 

• Character developments 
• Describing the setting
• Plot changes
• Predictions of future events

We will be asking students to share their journals throughout the weeks.
Also thank you for all of the photos being emailed to us. Don't stop. We are collecting the photos for a school presentation.

MUSIC (If it was not completed in Week 8)

Listening Log is due for room 7/8.
There should be 10 songs of your choice on your playlist as well as 5-10 songs from the classical genre in your listening log (from the Classics for Kids website).

JAPANESE

Learn/remember the name of your table team/group in Japanese. Make sure you can say/pronounce it. If your table has a sentence or phrase on the score card learn/remember this sentence pattern. Get your captain to see me if you are unsure.

Student groups that have not presented will be placing their names on a list as they are ready during Week 10.

Collaborative Project
Welcome to the assessment weeks. Our Netherlands group presented last week and set the bar at a very good level. All students were able to see a complete presentation and watch the assessment process that follows. It was a great start to a very large collaborative assignment.
Student groups will be placing their names on a list as they are ready during Week 9 but they will be given a slot otherwise in weeks 10 & 11.

This week's focus are the 2 & 9 times tables. Please create a quiz, crossword or puzzle for a peer. 
Could be any type of challenge involving this weeks focus tables.

• Kahoot (if you know how)
• Number Find (Like a word find but with numbers)

Although the 2 times tables are often thought to be easy, it was alarming last week to discover how many kids can not halve numbers up to 100 quickly. Please have a solid go at the 2's and reverse the questions to division.

If you can, discuss briefly with an adult or older sibling at home, about what kind of sentences would be useful to learn in Japanese for someone of your age. What do you think? Be prepared to list a few sentences in your table groups on Wednesday.

Collaborative Project

We begin assessing a group this week and the rest of the class in Weeks 9,10 and 11. The group who presents first has right of return in the Assessment Weeks.
Students have begun working on their region research project in collaborative groups.
Each group has had a leader assigned who has had to share the resouce page and project slide. (Google Slide) (Groups are below)

We will have caught up with all groups by Monday afternoon and tried to help guide them towards success. Monday is also the day we pull apart the inquiry questions so that captains and their teams understand what the inquiry questions mean, how to present them and how they tie into all of the work and research they have already done.

Welcome Back 2018!

Welcome to Room 7/8's Blog

This is where you will find the information we would like to share with you about our class, for example,
our Term Overview, information about the fast approaching Arbury Park Camp, Photos, Class Books
that we have read, and of course Homework.

We will not be starting our full homework program until after spelling tests are completed (Should be
Week 4 - Due to camp also).
However, we would like students to begin reading:

READING
Read for ten minutes every night or twenty minutes three times in a week.
We will be asking students about what they have read.

Reminder to those attending the Chromebook sessions on Tuesday Night in Week 2 at 6:00pm and 9:00
am on Wednesday Morning (Week 2 also) in the Resource Centre.
Chromebooks will be arriving this Wednesday if agreements are signed.

Acquaintance Night is on Tuesday 6th February 7:15pm(straight after the Chromebook Meeting),
looking forward to seeing you all then.

Camp information will be given out within the next week, as soon as arrangement have been finalised.

We are both looking forward to a year of successful learning with your child.
